Benefits of Your Bequest

  • Receive estate tax charitable deduction.
  • Lessen the burden of taxes on your family.
  • Create a UNCG legacy that is most meaningful to you.

How Do You Make a Bequest?

A bequest is one of the easiest gifts to make. With the help of an advisor, you can include language in your will or trust specifying a gift to be made to family, friends or UNCG as part of your estate plan.

Your Bequest Options

A bequest may be made in several ways:

  • Gift of a percentage of your estate
  • Gift of a specific dollar amount or asset
  • Gift a percentage of the balance or residue of your estate

Making a Bequest of Your Retirement Assets

Create a tax-efficient testamentary gift by designating UNCG as a beneficiary of your IRA or other tax-deferred plans, and instead give to your family members or other individuals through your will. If you designate an individual, such as a friend or loved one, as a beneficiary on your tax-deferred accounts, the amount given to that individual will be taxed, reducing the amount which they receive. UNCG or its Foundation, however, both being tax-exempt entities, would receive 100% of the amount designated by you, whether it be all or a portion of your account funds. Read More

Name UNCG as Beneficiary of your Life Insurance

Another alternative for making a legacy gift without going through your Will is to designate UNCG or its Foundation as a full or partial recipient of the benefits under your life insurance policy. Read More
