"We all deserve quality healthcare. With my planned gift, I am showing I value the nursing profession and the way the UNCG School of Nursing is working to train excellent nurses."
Philanthropy has always been a part of my life. I grew up in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and though my family had humble means, my three siblings and I were taught to save and to give back. We learned to pool our resources and value what we had. I still remember those lessons, and they impact how I live my life.
My route to healthcare and fundraising was a long one. I started out in criminology and my goal was to join the FBI, but first-hand experience with tragedy and the role that nurses play in saving and improving lives eventually led me to what I do today.
In my role as a fundraising professional, I ask others to value and believe in the UNCG School of Nursing. Even though I am not in a position to make a large cash gift, a planned gift allows me to show that I, too, believe in what the School of Nursing is doing. Planned gifts are a vehicle that almost anybody can use. They are easy, effective, and the tax benefits are significant. And by augmenting my planned gift, the designation of UNCG as a beneficiary of my IRA, with a modest annual gift, I can see my legacy in action today.
